Flatline Robotics
Hexapod
Walker Build
Six legs. Eighteen servos. One bio-inspired machine.
⏱ 6 Weeks · 2 Hrs/Wk
⚙ 12–18 Servos
🎯 Advanced Build
What You'll Build
- 6-legged walking robot with 2–3 joints per leg
- Laser-cut or 3D-printed frame inspired by insect anatomy
- Arduino Mega + dual PCA9685 servo drivers
- Tripod, wave & ripple gait pattern programming
- Joystick-controlled walking & turning
- Ultrasonic sensor for autonomous obstacle avoidance
- LiPo battery for untethered walking
6-Week Roadmap
1
Bio-Inspiration & Frame
Insect anatomy study. Build body plate & all 6 leg assemblies.
2
Wiring & Calibration
PCA9685 servo drivers, I²C setup, zero-position calibration for every servo.
3
Tripod Gait — First Walk!
Program the tripod gait. Tune step height, stride & speed. It walks!
4
Turning & Alt Gaits
Joystick steering, wave gait, ripple gait. Drive it around.
5
Sensors & Autonomy
Ultrasonic obstacle avoidance. LiPo battery. Untethered walking.
6
Showcase & Competition
Obstacle course challenge, presentations & awards.
